Sports Awards Evening 2012

2012 saw our biggest Sports Awards Evening to date. Coming off the back of an Amazing summer of sport with the Tour de France, The Olympics & Paralympics and The Ryder Cup we wanted to showcase and celebrate our student’s achievements as best we could.  With over 120 people in attendance including students, parents, staff and special guest Julz Adeniran, the night recognized the hard work, determination of our students along with celebrating the outstanding achievements of athletes over the summer.

Julz is an up and coming 110m hurdler who missed out on the London 2012 Olympics due to a knee ligament injury. He spoke about how his massive setback has inspired him to come back stronger and really achieve his goals and aspirations of Glasgow 2014 and Rio 2016. Julz also spent time with Gifted and Talented students along with Students who have been identified as talented young sports men and women and are on the Junior Athlete Education (JAE) programme.

Numerous award categories were recognised from Highest Attendance at Extra Curricular Activities, to Most Improved Students at GCSE and Outstanding Sports Person on the Junior Athlete Education Programme. We were also pleased to have members of our partner primary schools in attendance, who also nominated a student who they felt, excelled in sport in the last year.

Two of our most prestigious awards – ‘The Linda Dingle, Best Higher Sports Leader’ and ‘The Best Sports Person in A Level PE’ were won by ex-students who are currently working in schools in Ghana and Australia. Both students highlighted that they were so pleased to win the awards and they owe much of their success and what they are doing now because of the Sports Leadership Opportunities offered to them during their time at Jack Hunt School. We were delighted to have parents of both students in attendance, which picked up the awards in their daughters behalf.

“The highlight of the evening was a live skype link to Monique Williams, winner of the ‘Best Sports Person in A level PE’ who is currently coaching tennis to children in Melbourne, Australia. In her interview Monique discussed what she is currently doing in Australia and has outlined plans to be involved in the Australian Tennis Open in January. She also passed on words of encouragement and advice to younger students in the audience”

Congratulations to all nominees and winners
