National Sports Week with Olympic guest
Winter Olympics Bronze winner visits Jack Hunt School
Last week Jack Hunt took part in National School Sport Week. National Schools Sports Week unites everyone through sport and Jack Hunt changed its whole curriculum to provide students an opportunity to engage in new and unique sports. All year groups took part in Kinball, Quidditch, Rocket ball, Softball, Silent disco, Trampolining, Boxercise and NFL flag football.
On Thursday Joel Fearon, Bobsleigh 4 Man 2014 Sochi Olympics Bronze winner visited Jack Hunt as part of National Schools Sports Week. Joel shared his journey and gave students a masterclass PE lesson. Students had a chance to hold Joel’s Bronze medal and ask questions of his experience in the Winter Olympics. Joel created a positive impact throughout the day with his energy to inspire through sport.
Mr A Lomas Physical Education Teacher at Jack Hunt “It was a phenomenal week of sport, especially launching the new sports and using all the new equipment. The students really benefited from all the new games and has given students a new lease of excitement for PE lessons.
Miss H Jeal Director of Community Sport & Curriculum Area Leader Physical Education at Jack Hunt “We have had such a fantastic week of sporting activities at Jack Hunt, with staff and students learning new sports. Joel’s visit to Jack Hunt has ignited the appetite for sport for students especially after the last 2 years where students had very limited access to sport due to the pandemic”.
Alison Oliver MBE, Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust, said: “School sport should be an important part of every child’s education and development. But for too many children this isn’t happening. They are left feeling alienated by sport, that it isn’t for them, and they don’t have a place to belong within it.
“With the help of Jack Hunt School and Team GB we hope our annual awareness campaign was a powerful moment in time to help all children to find a place to belong and connect through the power of play and sport. It has so much to offer, developing life skills like communication, empathy, teamwork and resilience. We must transform attitudes and perceptions across society to prioritise sport and play in every childhood.”
