Fatima Manji 1987-1994

Fatima is a British television journalist and newsreader, most recently having worked with Channel 4 News. She made history as Britain's first hijab-wearing TV newsreader in March 2016.

She started her journalism career as a trainee at the BBC, reporting for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire before advancing to a reporter and presenter role for BBC Look East.

In 2015, Fatima was shortlisted for the Royal Television Society's Young Journalist of the Year award and was named Media Personality of the Year at the Asian Media Awards in 2016.

 

 

Aston Merrygold 1999-2004

Aston was an enthusiastic performer at JHS, participating in school productions and demonstrating a passion for sports by playing football for England in the European Youth Games.

In 2002, he competed in Stars in Their Eyes as Michael Jackson.  In 2008, JLS auditioned for The X Factor and ultimately finished in second place. Following the series, JLS released four albums.

 

Jess Evans 2003-2010

Jess began her football journey at age 11 with Netherton United. As she advanced, she played for Cambridge City FC and Peterborough Northern Star, eventually signing with Peterborough United in 2022. Her most cherished moment so far is playing before 3,000 devoted fans at Peterborough United's home ground. Jess aspires to continually progress and develop her game, enjoy a successful FA Cup journey, and compete against a WSL team.

Currently, Jess is a player for Northampton Town.

James Fox 2003-2010

James, a British Paralympic rower, is a five-time World Champion and a Paralympic gold medalist in the mixed coxed four events. He began rowing at the age of eleven.

His rowing career commenced at the Peterborough City Rowing Club. Tragically, James suffered a back injury in a car accident soon after he began studying sports science at a university in London.

Outside of rowing, Fox relishes the time spent with friends and engaging in various sports.

Ashley Watson 2005-2012

Ashley, an alumnus of JHS, initiated his sports career in athletics, focusing on sprinting. His exceptional talent allowed him to switch to bobsleigh, where he competed for Great Britain. 

Following the loss of funding for the British bobsleigh team in 2017, Ashley paused his athletic pursuits to concentrate on his education in sports therapy.

Ashley's latest accomplishment was participating in the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games with the Jamaican Bobsleigh Team. He has since retired from bobsleigh and is now gaining international recognition in powerlifting, having recently competed for Great Britain.

Ayesha Patel 2011-2018

After her tenure at JHS, Ayesha earned a BA (Hons) in Performance (Musical Theatre) from Mountview. 

Ayesha recently understudied and performed the roles of Emma Borden and Bridget Sullivan in Hope Mill Theatre's production of 'Lizzie The Musical,' which showed at Hope Mill Theatre, Southwark Playhouse, and toured the UK. She also originated the role of 'Dima Bawab' in 'Broken Wings' at the Charing Cross Theatre. Furthermore, she was nominated for a Broadway World Award for her performance as the understudy and lead role 'Selma Karamy' in the same production.  

Francisco Gomes 2014-2020

Francisco has forged a successful career on stage since graduating from Italia Conti. Francisco recently visited the school while performing in Madagascar the Musical at the New Theatre in Peterborough and had this to say about his time at JHS.  Joining JHS immediately after relocating from Portugal in 2014, studying all subjects in a different language was overwhelming. Nonetheless, acting came naturally to me and helped alleviate many concerns. Balancing homework, study, and performances was challenging at times. The school's support was incredible! Aware of my passion for performing, they provided numerous opportunities.
